Fire Protection


The Montevideo Volunteer Fire Department consists of 31 members. Department activities are directed by a fire chief, with assistance from a fire marshal, a first assistant and a second assistant.  Other officers include a hose captain, nozzle captain, ladder captain, rescue captain and the secretary.

The Department provides fire protection services within the community of Montevideo and in surrounding townships, through service contracts. The department has various pieces of equipment that allow it to fight fires in a variety of statutes. The Department also has hazardous materials (HAZMAT) responsibilities. To ensure readiness, personnel are engaged in a regular program of pre-fire planning, equipment maintenance, and training activities.
