Building Permits & Inspections

  • Building permits are required for nearly all construction projects within the city limits and within the two-mile radius of the city, including:
    • Shingling
    • Siding
    • Windows
    • Doors
    • Non-structural interior remodeling
    • Mechanical projects (water heaters, furnaces, fireplaces and all fossil fuel burning appliances)
  • Permits are also required for the following:
    • Signs
    • Storage sheds (<200 sq.ft.)
    • Moving structures on city streets
    • Replacing public sidewalks
    • Demolishing structures

 

Permits are required to be taken out and paid for prior to starting work. Failure to do so could result in fines. Contact the City of Montevideo Building Inspection Department at (320)269-6575.
